New Jersey-born Ed Gillespie in the 2014 United States Senate election in Virginia lost to democrat
Mark Warner.

Again in the 2017 election, after winning the Virginia Republican primary, he was defeated in the
gubernatorial general election by Democrat Ralph Northam.
