Was church cancelled or was this just the first post Christmas Sunday so
the worshipers finally felt they could get away with playing hookie?

Maybe everyone outside the U.S. was watching "Star Trek: Discovery."

I'm very surprised at how well that series is doing internationally
given that none of the STAR TREK films have been able to gain traction
(relative to similar big budget sci-fi) globally.

At the risk of anim8r making a voodoo doll of me and dunking it in
gasoline, I have to say that DISCOVERY wasn't all that bad. My main
criticism is that its look and tone were so different from all other
incarnations of TREK that it didn't seem like Star Trek at all. It might
have worked better as a standalone sci-fi story.

It's completely out of continuity with any other Trek ever made as well,
so, 'what he said' to your last sentence.
