"Was trained with the help of real professional photographers". Did
everyone get that? *Real* pros, not fake pros. This sounds like a late
night TV scam.

"Google then trained the AI on things like ... recognizing social
norms (detecting social cues and people who are consenting to photos).
Aha! So you won't get beat up after all...

The level of arrogance among these tech people is getting almost
scary.

I am not a real professional photographer, but I play one for Google Clips.

It will get worse as the mellennials entrench themselves into social media
even more.

People might end up using it as one of those cheap car driving cameras.

You have the right to take photographs in public but not to put up
surveillance cams, I'd say that Google glass and clips are in that
category since you can't see when they are in operation. Big brother
sees you, and how do you know if these devices are off, really?

The first thing I did with my new laptop was to put silver ducting
tape over the camera and microphone. THEN I turned it on.

That seems to be a tad paranoid. Doing that will preclude using
communications apps such as Skype, or FaceTime (not Facebook). You are better
off actually understanding your computer than gunging up your laptop with
duct tape.

Do you even know where the microphones are located in your laptop?

If you want to disable your mics, consider doing that via your system
preferences, and there are less damaging ways to obscure the camera, and
still have it available when needed.

If he's using Windows, he shouldn't have to do anything. All that
stuff will stop working all by itself.

I don't know hat you guys are doing. The last time I had to repair
Windows was in the days of Windows 2000. Since then it's been a
substantially smooth ride apart from the frequent changes in the user
interface.

I might have been exaggerating. The last time I had to repair Windows
was 3 long days ago. And it's been about a month since I had to reset
all of my audio settings to get any sound. But that is a monthly
thing, so I can't really complain.

We obviously use our PC's in different ways. And admittedly, it's not
necessarily Windows itself with some issues, but I think Windows
should better handle problems that pop up with mainstream software,
instead of just locking up. If I can't even kill a process, I blame
Windows for that.

I think you're also forgetting that Spyder issue you had, and the file
permissions issues.

I wouldn't class the Spyder problem as the fault of Windows any more
than I attribute my i1 problems to Windows. The file permissions
problems are something I could do without but they continue to work as
intended and have never brought Windows to a grinding halt.

They make networking between machines running different versions of
Windows a pain in the arse.

how would using a spyder plugged into a usb port cause windows
networking problems?

for that to be true, windows would need to be *really* fucked up.

Nope. It's your understanding of the English language is fucked up. I
was commenting on "The file permissions problems are something I could
do without but they continue to work as intended and have never
brought Windows to a grinding halt." I presume that you too were
commenting on 'the file permissions problems' when you wrote "those
absolutely are a problem with windows.".

you brought up networking. why did you mention networking in a
discussion about spyder issues?

in another post, you mentioned repeated bluescreens. that would be
considered a grinding halt.

> I presume that you too were

it is a windows issue.

no such issues on mac os.

Because you named Spyder problems and file permissions in the one
sentence. As I thought you could have read I wrote "The file
permissions problems are something I could do without but they
continue to work as intended and have never brought Windows to a
grinding halt." and when you wrote "those absolutely are a problem
with windows." I responded "They make networking between machines
running different versions of Windows a pain in the arse."

So, you see I did not mention networking in a discussion about Spyder
issues.

I also mentioned that was with Windows 2000 which dates back to the
last century.

nope. bill said that.

you're dismissing problems and accepting them as normal.

very strange.

then why did you mention networking issues in a discussion about spyder

The way I remember it, the Spyder issue *was* file permissions. It
couldn't write the new calibration file to a certain folder. That's
why they were in the same sentence. Thinking more about it, Eric might
have mentioned another separate issue, the one that many people had
when upgrading to 10. But I still think the Spyder problem had the
same cause.

This may have had something to with the introduction by MS of new
levels of file permissions for multiple levels of administrator. I
can't really remember.

In the context of file permissions. It's just a few paragraphs above.

except that your spyder problem involved a locally attached device, so
there wouldn't be any networking.

thus your mentioning networking was a new context.

no you don't.

all you need to know is how to enable/disable smb and how to connect to
a remote volume, both of which are very easy.

also, use smb3 when possible (which it should be), otherwise smb2. do
not use smb1.

no need to overcomplicate things.

What a drongo you are. In one line you tell me I don't need to know
anything about Samba. In the next line you tell me what I need to
know. You can't have it both ways but you seem to want to try.
